Mooloolaba Beach

The cure for anything is salt water -- sweat, tears, or the sea.
                                                                     ~Isak Dinesen~
After our big bush walk through the Buderim Rain forest yesterday, we stopped at Mooloolaba and took the kids down to the rock pools. We really have to go again, the kids could have easily spent hours there, but it was getting late, and JBV had to work. Plus I'd love to get some macro shots of all the snails, hermit crabs, shells, coral bits and barnacle thingies! The surf was pretty good, and there were a lot of 'mature' surfers really going to town at it! It was a very overcast afternoon, so there was no one apart from the few surfers around, so it was extremely peaceful! My favourite was watching the big tankers go by, especially when looking through my big zoom! A great way to end a lovely day with my family.
Don't forget, the photos are always better on my Flickr Page!

Buderim Waterfall

Romance often begins by a splashing waterfall and ends over a leaky sink
~Anonymous, but wise, person~

Family trip to Buderim today, to see the waterfalls. I went there years ago with school or something, but couldn't remember any waterfalls! I'm guessing I was too busy bitching about all the walking they were making us do! The kids were actually pretty excited to go too, which made a nice change! We cheated, and started from Quorn Close- the END of the walking trail, where the waterfall was only a few hundred metres away. Master J loved it- he was off and running, and many times we had to tell him to stop and wait for us. Miss K is not too fond of walking, but did well, and actually managed to walk the entire trip herself! Poor JBV was lumbered with all my camera gear, tripod and water bottles- I knew I bought him for a reason! Bit of a walk/climb (especially in my Doc Marten boots- I rode the motorbike down), but I've got a few photos of the falls to share. They're nothing spectacular, and it's my first attempt at photographing waterfalls, but I think some of them turned out alright!

As always, the photos always look better HERE if you get the time!! :)

Thank you to JBV for driving the kids while I rode, being our packhorse, and being my photography "assistant"

Close Encounters

I mentioned in one of my earlier blogs that I loved close up shots. REAL close up shots! Probably because my macro lens was the first decent lens I bought! But in our busy lives, we often miss the beautiful detail of the small things around us. Weeds, insects, even old cracking paint can hide an exquisite beauty, if only we stopped to look.

A Swell Way To Pass the Afternoon

Yesterday we went for a small walk through National Park. But we spent a lot of time just sitting at first point watching the surfers. Surfing has never interested me, but I wanted to have a go at shooting these blokes way out with my new zoom lens. But watching these guys for over an hour was amazing. They were all really good, but there were a couple that really stuck out and were gnarly. Do we still use the word gnarly? Anyway, these guys were awesome- 'dropping in', 'hanging ten' and "carvin' it up"!! ;) It's something I'm definitely going to do again (spectate that is) and maybe one day even give it a go!

Life's a Beach

I live in Noosa. Minutes away from stunning beaches. And I have taken it for granted every day of my life. Until I began looking at it through my viewfinder...! We really are lucky to be living in one of the most beautiful spots in the world- people pay a LOT of money to holiday here, and it's our permanent back yard! I had the day off of work, the kids had school and kindy, and JBV is the House Hubby at the moment, so the 2 of us decided to go check out National Park. 5 generations we've been here, and I have never been into the Noosa National Park!! Can't say we got real far today either! We made it as far as the Boiling Pot before I ran out of space on my camera! But it really is beautiful, which has given me the incentive to actually go again- and go further next time!! :)

Harrold the Koala welcomes visitors to the National Park. This is a memorial for Harrold, who was mauled to death by a domestic dog in the park back in 2002.

I know this bird's looking a bit odd... almost a bit evil! But I loved the water rolling in so I kept the photo anyway!

The Party

Miss K's birthday party today! Considering it was pouring down rain yesterday afternoon and all of last night, as well as being forecasted to be a miserable day today, the weather was absolutely stunning! It was only supposed to be a small-ish get together in the park for a sausage sizzle. But once Kaylee invited her couple of friends that brought their brothers and sisters, and I invited a couple of my friends with their kids... it ended up quite a big affair! Of course I'm now frazzled and ready for bed, but Miss K had a wonderful day, and that's all that matters! Right??

There is just one thing that we're trying to figure out. As I've gone through all the photos from today, one particular little girl keeps popping up that none of us know- including Miss K! I assumed she was one of the friends' sisters or something, but apparently not! I've got photos of her playing with the kids, winning prizes in pass the parcel, eating birthday cake, and even with a party bag at the end (I didn't name any of the bags, because I didn't know who was coming and just made up a pile)!! There was another party going on next to ours, we're not sure if she was from that party or just from a family visiting the park. Either way, where was her parent?? Lol. At least this kid has had a good day! They're starting to crash parties pretty young these days...!!

The birthday girl- being her usual daggy self!! Gotta love the outfits she chooses for herself these days...!

And a BIG thank you to Richie's Bakery for the cake!! It was a real show stopper!! http://www.richiesbakery.com.au/
