Alicia & Cameron {Sunshine Coast Maternity & Family}

 I met and photographed Alicia and family back in January- but have been way too busy to blog any of my shoots for such a long time (which is a good thing I guess- being busy that is!) We met down at Mooloolaba, on a very ominous looking morning- and it didn't take long for the rain to start pouring down! But the grey skies gave a great backdrop to many of the maternity and family photo shots in between the showers! Alicia has now had her baby- a beautiful little boy Liam, who I am sure there will be photos of real soon! :) Congrats guys!

I love that if you look closely enough you can see rain drops.....

365+1 {Week 3}

Week 3! Talk about busy! Plus the Internet was down for 3 days, so I DID fall behind a little! And I DID cheat on one of the themes...! :) Don't forget to keep up to date with specials and comps by following me on Face Book!

{15} 15/01/12 "Four" SO I was going to go the easy option, and just use my daughter who is 4 years old, and then I spotted my tic tacs... The kids and I had to polish off a few of them to get the correct number- but just goes to show that I suffer for my art! :)

{16} 16-01-12 "Grey" = Lucy! :)

{17} 17/01/12 "With a Prop" This is the photo I cheated with. I had to dig it up from an old shoot, but it fit with the theme so perfectly! Plus this day was in the middle of 3x 12 hour shifts and I didn't have time to even LOOK at a camera!!

{18} 18/010/12 "Sharp as a ..." Well obviously sharp as a tack! Another shot I've always wanted to try- wasn't totally happy with it- until I realised that the water balloon was in the shape of a heart!! Awww...! :)

{19/01/12} "Negative Space" Always thought of taking a photo of our lights, and here they are!!
Negative or 'white' space= "The space around and between the subject(s) of an image" (from good old wikapedia!)

{20} 20/01/12 "Masculine" I wanted to take a photo of Jaxon flexing his 'muscles' for this shot, but he was far too shy and wouldn't have a bar of it. Yet he'd let me draw a fake moustache on him and pretend to play with it... go figure!

{21} 21/01/12 "Geometric Shapes" I love bubbles- even at the age of only-just-twenty-something! No matter how sooky a kid is, bubbles always end up getting the best of them....! :)

365+1 {Week 2}

If I can manage to get a photo up everyday after the last week I've had- I have no excuse not to get one up every day for the next 352 days! I have been flat out! But it's been nice- even though in those spare minutes I've had I have been absolutely buggered- I've made myself go out to find the photo of the day (even though that couch looked mighty fine!). Which meant that the kids and I got to spend time together- and with the heat wave we just had, it usually meant it was time spent somewhere near water!

{8} 8/1/12 "Ripple" I've always wanted to try these droplet photos- and I can't wait to experiment some more! While I did capture some 'better' photos, this one fits better into the ripple theme!

 {9} 9/1/12 "Float" There was no question what we were going to photograph when I told the kids about this topic... Off to the little blow up pool out the back- filled with water bombs!

 {10} 10/1/12 "10 Steps" The idea here was to take a photograph of something '10 steps away' from SOMETHING- it could be 10 steps away from your computer, from your work, your school... anything- I went with 10 steps from my backdoor. I thought it was going to be another flower photo, but how lucky was I to get this baby?! Goes to show what may be just outside your door if you took the time to look...!

{11} 11/1/12 "Light and Dark" I took this photo somewhere out the back of North Arm, not planning on actually using it for the topic- I just saw beautiful rays beaming through the clouds on a lonely tree on a hill. And it came out pretty average (for want of a better word!) so I played around with it and came up with this to fit the topic! As a commenter on my FaceBook page said "Color is a perception, which when removed, can reveal the depths of a shaded world." Not sure if it's from a prior source or not- but it fits this beautifully!

{12} 12/01/12 "Feminine" On another afternoon spent cooling off by the river, I struggled to find something feminine about my 4 year old daughter! She's such a tomboy! Until I spotted her one weakness- fingernail polish!

{13} 13/01/12 "Making Tracks" Back to the river... well it WAS 35degree+ days we were having! I went down aiming to photograph tracks in the sand- from birds, dogs humans... and got a few too. But then we found this old race car in the bottom of our bag of sandcastle building supplies. The kids made a huge built up race track, complete with a centre 'lake'!

{14} 14/01/12 "Salty" Many things crossed my mind for this topic, but when you live metres away from something this beautiful (and salty!) why wouldn't you photograph it?

Don't forget to become a follower of this blog, or a fan of my FaceBook page to stay up to date with all the specials and Competitions coming up for the New Year!

365+1 {Week1}

7 days, 7 photos! I didn't think I'd make it this far! haha, only 359 days to go! I decided to jump on the 'photo a day' band wagon with everyone else, but I'm using it as a way to try and get me out of my comfort zone-  to take pics I normally wouldn't take, or process them in a way I wouldn't usually process them. My inspiration comes from a range of places, but is normally from a  Flickr web group I'm with called Once Daily Challenges. I'm trying to post them on my FaceBook Page each day, but will also add a weekly blog in case you miss any (because I KNOW how devastated you would be if you missed one!)

{7} 7/1/12 "Cover"
My sons new Nintendo 3DS- and his favourite Mario cover for it- It's already saved the DS a few times!

{6} 6/1/12 "Film Noir"
The term film noir describes a type of film that is very dark in its outlook. The word noir is French for 'black', and it was during the 1940s that film noir came into its own. The term was coined by film critics just after World War II. This is my first attempt with this 'style' and I was a little stumped on what to actually photograph for this style, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

{5} 5/1/12 "Leading Lines"
I love peacock feathers!

{4} 4/1/12 "Delicate"
For this one, I chose the beautiful purple flowers outside my computer room window. I was very heavy handed with adding 'texture' to this photo to give it something 'different'.

{3} 3/1/12 "Money Can't Buy"
Day 3 into the challenge, and my kids are already the subject! I've got a feeling they might star in this 365+1! I love Jaxons expression, he was pulling all sorts of faces at his sister! I got a lot of great photos from this 'mini shoot'

{2} 2/1/12 "Many"
We have a bit of an ant problem at our place... Luckily they usually stay outside!

{1} 1/1/12 "Happy New Year"
2012. It was a rocky start for us, but things can only go up!

~Competion Winner~ Miss M!

Well, the competition ended months ago, and the winner had finally received her completed disc! Taran is a great supporter of Rainbow Photography, and with the subject of the photo shoot to be her beautiful almost-2-year-old daughter, I was really looking forward to it. Trying to get a time that suited as both however proved difficult- and when we finally got together the weather was shocking! We finally hit the jackpot with a beautiful day down the river a couple of weeks ago, and caught some wonderful images. So these photos are a combination of 2 different shoots! When I present a client with their DVD of completed images- I always try to include a couple of fun and candid shots as well as the 'it' shots. Shots that other people may look at and think is 'akward' or odd, but actually mean something to the client- a memory. Like Miss M 'planking' when she was actually trying to peek over the edge of the jetty. Or the photo of Miss M trying to reattach the flower she picked because she had been told not to pick the newly planted gerberas! Photos are memories captured in time, so I think it's important to include these kinds of images!Thank you Taran for your support, thank you Miss M for your compliance! Congratulations!!

Get better- not bitter

Surfing around on facebook, I came across a talented photographer in Oklahoma- Dina Weiher. But it wasn't just her photos that impressed me- it was her philosophy on photography that has really pulled me in- and inspired me to write this! With todays cameras and lenses so readily available, fairly cheap and pretty easy to use, everyone can be a photographer! And lets face it- these days just about everybody is! And then the claws come out. I used to be friends with a very talented photographer, and watched as she grew from nothing to the super star she is today. But I also bore witness to what none of her fans saw- all the toes she stepped on, the backstabbing and the lying that she used to get to where she is. And as soon as I picked up a camera, I too was black listed. Photographers are a very "cliquey" (hahaha!) group! As Dina said in her blog, it's like they are guarding secrets worthy of the Templar's! I don't pretend to be a professional, I am continuing to learn more and more every day. I love photography, I love meeting new people, and I feel blessed each time I am asked to help capture a family's memory. But I also love when you can find photographers that are willing to teach and share their knowledge, or to learn 'together' with. And while there are many photographers that are not confident enough in their own abilities to share and mentor, there are a few little gems around (Tayana Photography being one of them!). So- rant over, but hopefully you can take a little bit of this raving with you in  everything that you do- get better, not bitter! :)

Best friends are for life....
